Pledge Never to Wear Animals!

Imagine walking down the street and seeing people wearing gloves and coats made out of human skin. That sounds like something out of a scary movie, right? But that's what happens to animals in real life—their skin is turned into clothes!

Every year, millions of animals are killed so their skins can be made into coats, shoes, belts, and other items. None of these animals wanted to die and be turned into clothes for people to wear.

Many of these animals suffered a lot before being killed. Here are some other examples of what happens to animals in the clothing industry:

• Minks, foxes, chinchillas, and other animals spend their entire live terrified and stuck inside tiny, dirty cages on fur farms and are killed in painful ways.
• Ducks and geese used for down often have their feathers ripped right out of their skin.
• Many cows and other animals who are going to be killed for leather have their tails chopped off and their skin burned with a hot iron (called "branding") and sometimes are even skinned alive.
• "Exotic" animals, like alligators and crocodiles, are often killed for their skins when they're only 2 years old. Snakes are sometimes skinned while they're still alive.
• The workers who cut the wool off sheep are paid by the amount of wool they collect, so they often work as fast as they can. They end up hurting the sheep—cutting, kicking, punching, or even killing them.
• To get angora for sweaters, rabbits have their fur yanked out by the fistful every few months. They often cry and scream in pain.

There are tons of comfortable materials to make clothes out of that don't cost a lot of money and that don't use animals. Some examples are cotton (like denim) and synthetics (like polyester). When you're clothes shopping, be sure to check labels to make sure you don't end up buying part of an animal!

Kind kids everywhere are speaking up and refusing to buy clothes (or anything else) made from animals. YOU can be one of them. Pledge never to wear animals!
